Home Insurance
When you buy a house in Montpelier, Northfield, Barre, or wherever, you're going to need homeowner's insurance. Well, that's not technically true.
You need it if you're planning on financing the purchase. Lenders won't make the loan until they see an insurance policy in place. I suppose that makes sense, I mean, the property is the collateral and all (polite tribute to Holden Caulfield...)
It's mainly a question of getting the right amount of coverage, and making sure you have any "riders" that make sense for you. There are a few local insurance brokers who are top notch. Call or email and I can get you in touch with several who can help.
They're not going to like this, but to a large extent, insurance is like gasoline. The important thing is that you have enough and the right type. It's less important where you get it.
Be proactive, and work on getting the insurance binder in place sooner rather than later. I've seen instances where buyers needed to have insurance companies fax a binder over a day or two before the close. It can work that way, but if there are any typos or glitches, it could throw off the close. Just get it done earlier.
A great (albeit somewhat dry) online resource can be found right here.
