Downtown Montpelier Developments

The city of Montpelier is poised to do some really smart urban development and re-engineering, which is probably a good thing.

As a summary, the city is entertaining the idea of fast-tracking (or bypassing) some of the Act 250 regulations for downtown development.

From the perspective of the Montpelier real estate market (and I speak primarly regarding the residential side), it could be a good step.  A lot of the people I talk to who are planning on relocating to Montpelier want to live in town, close to the downtown and schools, and don't want gigantic houses.

Re-purposing some of the existing structures, or enabling easier development into residential housing could make more highly desirable living spaces availalble within the Montpelier real estate market.

River Station is a good example.  These are condos on the site of an old, decrepit granite shed.  It wasn't being used, but now there are some very tasteful, reasonably priced condos and apartments there.  Well played, Central Vermont Land Trust!
