I just learned this weekend that Allen Lumber in Montpelier and Barre are offering free installation and template fitting for Corian solid surface countertops. 

If you've got a dated countertop, putting in a new one can be a relatively inexpensive way of giving your kitchen an entirely new look.  That's good for resale, refinancing, or just to make your kitchen look nicer.

At the risk of offending (my parents read my blog, and I'm pretty sure I'm about to offend them.  Oh well.), here are some countertops that are considered "dated" by today's buyers.

  • Any laminate with metal edging
  • Tile with stained or deteriorating grout
  • Baby blue solid color
  • Anything you picked up out of a "free pile" (probably) 

It might be worth checking in with Daryl or Robyn at Allen Lumber in Montpelier to see what kind might be possible in your kitchen and within your budget.  I will say this, though, if you're considering putting your house on the Montpelier or Barre real estate market, it's definitely to your advantage to have an updated kitchen.

Are you going to recoup 100% of a new countertop?  Not necessarily directly in the sale price.  But if it helps your house sell more quickly, and for even a little more, it's probably a good investment.  You've got to make your house for sale in Montpelier or Barre stand out from the competition.
